CRASH, BOOM, BANG!

I can't think of a better way to spoil a perfectly good Saturday than getting in an accident. At least it was the fault of the other driver. We had been running errands all morning in preparation for our upcoming vacation when a car pulled out in front of us. Apparently she did not see us, although I am not sure how that is possible?. Anyway, Brian hit the brakes and tried to swerve out of the way but to no avail. It was unavoidable. Our air bags did not deploy, but the other car's did. I guess that is the difference between a Honda and Hyundai. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.

Ashlyn did get a small abrasion on her neck from the seat belt, and the ordeal gave her quite a scare. She let out a good scream and began crying when we collided, and she has repeated over and over since the incident, "It was scary." Also, either Brian and I must have unknowingly called the driver stupid in the midst of the accident because when she stepped out of her car Ashlyn looked at her - in a way that I have not seen her look at anyone - and quite curtly said, "You stupid." Luckily my door was closed so the lady did not hear her.

So now we get to deal with those friendly insurance agents and try to get the car rental situation figured out before we leave on Thursday. Brian has already had one conversation with the other driver's insurance which ended in Brian telling the man that if they did not pay for new car seats, (yes, the officer who came to the scene informed us that once a car seat has been involved in an accident it is no longer safe to use) that we would sue. To which the agent responded by hanging up on Brian! Oh, I can tell that this is going to be a pleasant experience.

Oh my gosh, how awful!!! I'm so glad you guys are okay! I can't believe the insurance agent said that to Brian...can they really do that?

Good thing you guys weren't hurt. How scary for your kids. Have fun with the insurance agents. Tell them it's going to cost them more for hanging up on you! How rude.

I sure hope that everything works out for you and that the other Insurance company comes to their senses. That guy sure sounds rude and needs to learn some phone etiquette.

Hopefully your call "Was being recorded for blah, blah, blah purposes!" then maybe the insurance agent will get reprimanded! Thank goodness everybody is okay!

That is hilarious-not the accident, of course, but what Ashlyn said. That really sucks about your car-thank goodness the lady had insurance. And nice, if you get a minivan for vacation, even if it is just a rental! Anyway, glad everyone is okay.

So glad to know that everyone is ok, and that Ashlyn is still learning from her parents, even in the midst of tragedy. Good luck with the Insurance Peons.

Wow, Brion and I went through (are going through) the same thing. Our car got totalled in December. We are stil trying to get insurance to pay up! We had two carseats that need to be replaced. Words of advice...get a letter from the manufacturer, they will be happy to give you one. The insurance has to pay for them, but they will try to do it at a depreciated value. Also, document EVERYTHING...take several pics of Ashlynn's abrasion and do it a few days apart after the bruising comes out. Take notes on what was said in every call (we got stuck with a $200 rental bill because we didn't). Insurances record everything, so beware. Glad everyone is okay. Good luck, and enjoy the vacation.

I am so glad you guys are okay! I did hear about having to get new car seats once they have been in an accident. An insurance agent hanging up on you?! Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Accidents are never any fun! Sorry about having to deal w/the insurance people-that's one of my least favorite things to do in the entire world. Hopefully it all works out for the best. See you this weekend!
